Olivia is an young semi-proffessional singer appearing on television, radio, CD's and the internet. As well as all the services and concerts at the cathedral she has also done a small amount of freelance work.
Olivia has a passion for choral and classical music and really loves the early choral music such as Tallis, Byrd and Purcell. Olivia has a naturally straight tone and so finds that her voice is well suited to these composers and this style of music.
Last Easter Olivia also worked with the Welsh National Opera in a workshop for musical theatre and acting meeting a lot of new people and contacts and gaining more experience and audition technique. At the end of the week Olivia was asked whether she would like to audition for Britten's opera "Paul Bunyan" as part of the opera chorus and will be running in the summer on the Cardiff Millenium Centre's main stage. Olivia lept at the chance and auditions are in November this year.
Olivia has appeared as guest soloist for a number of concerts including the Spirit of Christmas, hosted by Matthew Kelly with supporting artists, when she was 11, 15 and 16 years old getting the opportunity to work with actors such as: Nathaniel Parker, Ian McNiece, Robert Glenister (Hustle and Spooks), Emily Brunei, Jan Harvey, Jim Carter (Downton Abbey), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey). Olivia has also sung as a soloist for the Chester Music Society, Chester Music Festival and the North Wales International Music Festival. Olivia appears on many CDs either as a soloist or as part of an ensemble. As a soloist she appears on Abbey Gate Collages Christmas CD , 'Hark the Herald' and on Chester Cathedrals Christmas CD 'Glory to the New Born King' Olivia appears on all of Octavo's CDs. Octavo is a small chamber choir specialising in early to contemporary choral and folk music and is growing a fan base around the UK. Also in 2009 Olivia came 2nd in the Radio 2 BBC young chorister of the year competition held at St. Pauls Cathedral singing live to 2000 people and being broadcast on Radio 2 . Olivia has toured most of Europe with Chester Cathedral Choir and Abbey Gate College and took part in many musicals while at the college. Olivia has also sung for the Royal Family at the wedding of the Duke of Westminster's eldest daughter.
After going to university Olivia started singing with the Mnachester Voluntary Choir along with being accepted to sing in Chester Vocale, a choir directed by the choral composer and conductor Philip Stopford , who has many works in the Classic Fm Hall of Fame and is well known over the world.
At Easter last year Olivia gained a part in Opera Della Luna's production of 'The Gondoliers" at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester. It was her first time performing in a professional company, it was a great experience and she would love to do more in the future.
